What is fitness? What are the characteristics of being fit?

The United States Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) states that fitness is -"a set of attributes that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity".

This description just does not mean how long someone can run for how much weight you can lift.
Fitness is much more than listing which activities you do or for how long you do them for.

Despite being significant, these attributes only provide a two dimensional image of Fitness.

Few of the major components of physical fitness include:

  • Cardiorespiratory Endurance (Cardiorespiratory Fitness)
  • Muscular Strength
  • Muscular Endurance
  • Body Composition
  • Flexibility
